During normal times there would be no issues with VISIT NSW promoting the Hunter. These are not normal times as much as we want it to be normal. NSW is on the brink of a major Covid outbreak.
There are three Covid cases that have spread from Sydney to Port Stephens. At the same time VISIT NSW is running tourism ads on Facebook to bring more visitors from Sydney and around Australia to Port Stephens.
How can the current health advise be advising Hunter residents to avoid Sydney unless necessary, but another Government organization is promoting people from Sydney to visit the Hunter for unnecessary trips? It’s just madness.
We have reached out to Visit NSW for comment and they have not responded as yet. Whilst VISIT NSW is not breaking laws as NSW remains open to everyone except Victorians.
There are growing concerns from Hunter Residents over people visiting the area and bringing the virus with them.
