Hunter man charged with manslaughter

Case Summary:

An unnamed man has been charged with 11 offenses including manslaughter after a double fatal crash in August in the Hunter.

An unnamed 44-year-old man from Tanilba Bay


Crime and Charges:

  • two counts of manslaughter
  • two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous
  • two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive speed dangerous
  • negligent driving – occasioning death
  • drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • negligent driving, not keep left of dividing line and class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 30km/h.

Police will allege:

A man has been charged with 11 offences following an investigation into a two-vehicle crash, where two people died, in the state’s Hunter region earlier this year.

About 2pm on Wednesday 26 August 2020, a Toyota Aurion travelling north along Port Stephens Drive and a Holden Commodore travelling west along Salamander Way collided at a roundabout.

The Toyota driver, a 77-year-old woman, and her passenger, an 80-year old man, were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however they both died at the scene.

The Holden driver, a 44-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening head injury.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.


Bail and Court Dates:

The Tanilba Bay man was refused bail and appeared before Raymond Terrace Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Monday 18 January 2021
