Appeal for dashcam following road-rage incident – Kotara South

Police are appealing for dashcam footage as they continue to investigate a suspected road-rage incident near Newcastle last month.

Police have been told a white Skoda sedan and a white Volkswagen hatch were travelling west along Myall Road, Kotara South, about 9.30am on Wednesday 26 May 2021, when the Volkswagen has veered into the wrong lane and caused the Skoda to take evasive action to avoid a collision with oncoming traffic.

The vehicles continued onto Charlestown Road before stopping and the driver of the sedan – a 59-year-old Kotara man – approached the hatch to speak to the driver.

Police have been told the hatch then reversed and hit the driver, knocking him to the road.

The hatch then drove away at speed, last seen heading south along Charlestown Road.

Several bystanders went to assist the man before contacting emergency services.

He was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for fractures to his ribs, and bruising; he’s since been released.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the incident.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who may have dashcam footage from either Myall or Charlestown Roads at Kotara South between 9.15am and 9.45am on Wednesday 26 May 2021, or who may have witnessed the incident at the intersection of both roads to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
