$2.5 Million signage project completed but was it worth it?

Cessnock Council has completed work on new signage for the Hunter Valley and to be honest they look great, the new signage project costed $2.5 Million with $1.25 Million of rates payers and $1.25 Million of taxpayers money.

Whilst the new signs look great, I dought they will do anything improve tourism numbers and only a handful of people will actually stop and look at the signs and maps in detail.

Whilst tourism is great for the local economy and provides local jobs, in some cases which are underpaid, and or off the books, only a very small amount of the tourist dollars trickles down and benefits the greater community.

Should tax payers and rates payers foot the bill for what are essentially free advertising for the Vineyards who otherwise make enough profit to run their own advertising campaigns.

The signs are here to stay, they look fantastic let’s just hope they don’t get vandalized and provide a real benefit to tourists visiting the Hunter Valley.

Have your say do think the money was well spent?
