A man, wanted on outstanding warrants, has been charged after allegedly being caught with a firearm at licensed premises in Newcastle.
Police were called to a hotel on Maitland Road, Mayfield, about 8.30pm on (Tuesday 16 June 2020), after receiving information a man with outstanding warrants was there.
Officers from Newcastle City Target Action Group (TAG) attended and arrested a 31-year-old man.
When the man’s backpack was searched, police allegedly found a sawn-off firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with five offences.
- possess unregistered firearm
- prohibited firearm
- possess shortened firearm without authority, not keep firearm safely
- prohibited firearm
- possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.
The two outstanding warrants were also executed.
