Is timed parking the answer to Cessnocks parking woes?

Councillor Ian Olsen has proposed that timed parking on Charlton St could be a solution to parking in the center of Cessnock instead of all day parking, unfortunately other councillors did not agree and suggested that parking at the Cessnock Performing Arts Center and parking behind the Cessnock Hotel are suitable places for shoppers to park.

It makes sense that this car park should be used for eager shoppers who can easily access the majority of shops in Cessnock, from this car park, unfortunately its normally full of all day parkers.

I just can’t believe that we don’t have time restrictions, not paid parking, in our busiest part of our CBD.

Ian Olsen

Commercial shops in Cessnock have been suffering long before the pandemic for a number reasons with parking being of the biggest issues, without easily access customers just won’t come and spend money in Cessnock.

Cessnock City Council voted down the plan and did not offer any practical solutions we would love here your thoughts on parking in Cessnock.
